Book Launch
30th Oct. 2012
A very successful launch was held at The Tea Rooms, with a large number of people attending. Following Anne's short talk about Shirley Hibberd's links with Stoke Newington, everyone enjoyed the 'Victorian-themed' snacks that were laid on.
The cake was a highlight and was created using a facsimile of the book cover.
Two prominent people attending were Tim Rumball, the editor of Amateur Gardening, and Anthony Warwick-Ching, a direct descendant of Shirley Hibberd's – his great-grandson.
Tim kindly wrote the humorous and thought-provoking foreword to Anne's book. To those who don't know (read the book?!) Shirley Hibberd was the very first editor of Amateur Gardening in 1884. With Tim as the current editor it was very pleasant to close a 128-year circle.
Anthony related some interesting stories about his memories and kindly gave Anne his findings, which will no doubt aid her further research.
